Innovation Project: CP English 12

This semester we will be working on a semester-long research project called the Innovation Project. This will be a very exciting project for you because you will be able to pick your own topic and work over the course of the semester to pursue your interests regarding your topic.
Although you will be picking your own topic and essentially working independently on this research project, there will be some guidelines.
Guidelines:
1. All topics must be “Problem-Solution Based”- Problems can be big or small, personal or private, but must fit the “problem-solution” mode.
2. I must approve your project before you get into it.
-All students will be completing a preliminary proposal to gain topic approval.
Due: February 7th
-Students will then complete a (2 min “Elevator Proposal” to the class)- Instructions on Website.
Due: February 21st.
- Topics cannot change after February 21st.
3. I will be giving you 15 minutes of class each day to work on your project, but you can certainly work on it outside of class too. That is encouraged!!!
4. We will be conducting research on your topics March 17th-28th in the library (learning to use the library, writing an outline, taking notes, and writing a 1.5-2 page argument paper.)- Research will be ongoing all semester.
5. Weekly Blogging: You will be responsible for posting updates on your projects to your personal blog on Wednesdays and Fridays. (See attached blogging instructions and rubric.) These weekly blogs will be counted as checkpoint grades for the progress of your project.
6. Project Components:
- Driving Question: (What is the Problem?)
- Research: (Learn about Problem)
- Implementation (Implement a Plan to solve the Problem)
- Presentation (TED style talk) - 5 minute presentation Week of May 30th
How Will I Be Graded?
*Your initial proposal will count as a “Presentation/ Project Grade”
*Your weekly blogging will count as 2 participation grades each week, and will be graded using the attached rubric.
*Your time researching in the library will consists of several participation grades and a final essay grade for your completed paper.
*Your final Solution/Product will be graded along with your TED Talk as 2 Tests Grades.
